Egg freezing offers you the flexibility to preserve your fertility and plan parenthood when the time is right for you.
Who Is This For?
- Women who wish to preserve their fertility for personal or lifestyle reasons
- Women facing medical treatments that may affect fertility
- Those who want more time before starting a family
What is Egg Freezing?
Egg freezing (oocyte cryopreservation) is a method of preserving a woman's fertility by collecting, freezing and storing her eggs for future use. This allows you to use your eggs at a later stage when you are ready to start or grow your family.
Why Consider Egg Freezing?
There are many reasons women choose to freeze their eggs:
- Elective fertility preservation — You may not be ready to have children now but want to maximise your options for the future
- Medical reasons — You may be facing medical treatment (such as chemotherapy) that could affect your fertility
- Career or personal timing — You want the freedom to plan parenthood on your own terms
What Does the Process Involve?
The egg freezing process typically involves:
- Initial consultation and assessment — Comprehensive evaluation including blood tests and ultrasound to assess your ovarian reserve
- Ovarian stimulation — A short course of hormone injections over approximately 10–14 days to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs
- Monitoring — Regular ultrasound and blood tests during stimulation to track follicle development
- Egg retrieval — A short procedure performed under light sedation to collect the mature eggs
- Vitrification — The collected eggs are rapidly frozen using advanced cryopreservation techniques and stored securely
What to Expect
Dr Kirshenbaum will guide you through every step of the process, ensuring you feel informed and supported. The initial consultation typically takes 45–60 minutes, during which your individual circumstances, ovarian reserve and treatment options will be discussed in detail.
The stimulation and retrieval process takes approximately two weeks. Dr Kirshenbaum remains closely involved throughout, providing continuity and personalised care.
